Why yes, I am an only child! I know terrible right?!? There are a lot of myths about only child's and I am here to blast them. I seem to do a lot of lists anymore, and I apologize about that. I will try to promise that this will be the last one for a while. Try, give me that much. :) Here is an article that I found that names eleven different myths about only children and the lady that wrote this article does have some great myths that I definitely know everyone thinks of.

1. They can't make friends: hahaha if that was true I would not have the best friends that I have now. Yes, it can be hard to make friends but that really has nothing to do with if you have siblings or not. It all determines on your personality, how you treat people and honestly shyness can scare people away as well.
2. They're miserable: So not true, I am not a miserable person unless I am sick or cold (seriously though, I hate the cold!) I honestly do not see how being an only child would make someone miserable.
3. They're spoiled: Okay, sooo not true! Just because someone is an only child does not what so ever mean they are spoiled. Yes, everyone I am spoiled and have a secret life. I have 2 cars, my own apartment over looking the ocean, and millions of dollars....NO! (really that was sarcasm) Yes, my parents could spend a little more money on me at Christmas or birthday because they do not have other children to buy for, but how in the world does that make me spoiled?
4. They're self-centered: Okay, honestly aren't we all a little self-centered at times? Yes, fine I will admit that sometimes I can be a little self-centered. No, I will not share my food, seriously though leave my food alone unless I offer. That really is the only way that I can think of that I am self-centered. Does that make me a bad person? No, really those who have siblings I am sure do not like sharing stuff either and are a little self-centered.
5. They're accidents: well then, thank you for bringing that to my attention. Just because someone is an only child does not mean we are accidents, I mean there are parents who have three or four kids and can say the last child was an accident.
6. They're parents don't love them: Wow...well okay, that is just rude to be honest. Again who comes up with these! There are parents who have more than one child and do not really care about their children. How is it that having one child means that my parents do not love me? Parents who only have one child it could be just that they have a hard time getting pregnant, some kind of health issue or maybe they just want one kid.
7. Their parents hover: Yes, the parents can tend to hover more and be over protective, but that is just not an only child thing. Just because a parent loves their child and wants them safe does not mean that they just have one kid.
8. They need imaginary friends to keep them company: I had an imaginary friend for one day. We talked about this in my Life-span development class where the teacher had us raise our hands if we had an imaginary friend and those who raise their hands were not just an only child. 9. They're bossy: Sometimes that can be true, in my case the only time I get bossy is when people will not listen to be. That is really the only time I can think of when I tend to get bossy. I get very annoyed when someone will not listen to me espeically if I am giving directions to a place. Isn't everyone a little bossy though as well!
10. They mature to quickly: Excuse me, but I see nothing wrong with being mature. Honestly being mature is a good thing, yes while it is good to have fun, but if you are 20 and acting like a five year old...then please grow up. This again is not an only child thing, those who have siblings can be very mature as well.
11. They cannot succeed without their parents: That is such a lie, how can anyone say that. If that is true then half of America probably who not succeed. There are kids whose parents have three or four kids and succeed without their parents and there are those who rely parents.
The one thing I will admit that sucks about being an only child is that when you get in trouble you litterally have no one to tattle/blame. When you have siblings it can be easy to push off what you did wrong onto someone else. I hope that this post kind of open your eys about the misconceptions of an only child. I maybe an only child, but my cousins and friends tend to make up for those missing siblings.
